Refund Policy

I want bookings and payments to be clear and fair. Please tell me as soon as possible if your plans change. The arrangements below apply alongside your written quote or booking confirmation and do not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Deposits and advance payments
The usual deposit for remote recording, composition, in-person studio work and live performances is 10% of the agreed booking price, credited towards that price. A deposit is not automatically non-refundable. Online guitar lessons are paid in full ahead of time rather than through a deposit.
Online guitar lessons
If you cancel or ask to reschedule at least 24 hours before the lesson starts, there is no cancellation or rescheduling fee. A timely cancellation receives a refund of the prepaid fee; for a timely reschedule, the payment goes towards the replacement lesson agreed with you.
For cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, a fee of up to 25% of the lesson price may apply only if it was clearly agreed before booking and is fair and lawful in the circumstances. It is not an automatic forfeiture. I normally waive or reduce it for genuine illness, family emergencies or where a replacement lesson avoids significant loss. Short-notice rescheduling requests and missed lessons without notice are considered individually; they do not automatically attract the cancellation fee or loss of the full prepayment. Any amount not lawfully owed is refunded or, with your agreement, applied to another lesson.
If significant connection problems prevent the lesson from being completed, I will normally offer a replacement lesson without an extra lesson charge. If I cannot provide the agreed lesson, you may choose a full refund or a mutually agreed replacement lesson, without losing any other legal remedy.
In-person studio sessions
Please give at least 48 hours' notice if cancelling or rescheduling. For a cancellation with less than 48 hours' notice, a fee of up to 10% of the booked session price may apply only where agreed in advance, fair and legally permitted. Your deposit counts towards any valid fee; it is not charged twice. I normally waive or reduce the fee for a genuine emergency or a reschedule that avoids significant loss. No-shows are assessed case by case.
If I cannot provide the confirmed studio session, you can choose a refund of payments for the unperformed session or an agreed replacement date, without losing other legal rights.
Live performances
The remaining balance for a live performance is ordinarily due seven days before the event, unless the booking agreement says otherwise. A client cancellation with less than seven days' notice may attract a fee of up to 10% of the booked performance price only if clearly agreed in advance and fair and lawful. Any deposit is credited towards a valid fee. I normally waive or reduce a fee for a genuine emergency or a workable new date without significant loss. Previously agreed, unavoidable expenses may be considered fairly without double charging.
If I cannot perform, the normal outcome is a full refund of money paid for the unperformed performance. A replacement musician or new date will only be used if you agree. Unsafe conditions, weather and venue changes are considered in light of the actual booking, responsibility and applicable law, not an automatic deposit forfeiture.
Remote recordings, composition and production
If you cancel before work begins, I will assess whether any properly agreed and lawful costs are payable and refund the remaining advance payment. If you cancel after work begins, we will consider identifiable work actually completed and reasonable expenses disclosed and approved in advance. Deposits and other payments count towards what is properly owing; unused amounts are refunded. There is no automatic loss of the deposit or blanket no-refunds rule.
If I cannot complete the agreed work, you are not required to buy unusable or unwanted partial work. We will consider a separately accepted partial delivery, a refund and any other remedies required by law.
If the service is not as agreed
Australian consumer guarantees apply to eligible services. The appropriate remedy depends on the problem and applicable law and may include correcting or re-performing work, a refund, cancellation or compensation. Creative revision limits and cancellation fees do not take away these rights.
Receiving your refund
When a refund is owed, I normally initiate it within 10 business days after confirming it is due, without unreasonably delaying that decision. Bank and card processing may take longer to settle. Where practical, refunds go back by the original payment method; if that is not possible, we will agree on a secure alternative. I do not deduct my card-processing expenses from a legally required refund or insist on store credit instead of a money refund owed to you.
